Owner:  New York City Department of Design and Construction

Client:  Tully Construction Co.

Location: Bronx, NY

Construction Cost: $81,479,339

This project includes the construction of 9,020 linear feet of distribution ductile iron water main and 4,365 linear feet of the combined sewer. In addition, 26 fire hydrants and 306 trees are included as well as more than 20,000 square feet of reconstructed sidewalk and 29,000 square feet resurfaced pavement.

Work also includes the replacement of nearly two miles of roughly century-old cast iron water mains with new, stronger ductile iron mains.  Piles, rock excavation and dewatering are required for the continued progression of the construction. The project also involves repair of existing trunk combined sewer, modification of regulators, and replacement of a water main along the project scope streets.

The project area borders over 160 privately-owned properties with structures within 50 feet of the deep excavation.  SA Engineering worked closely with the community liaison to perform pre-construction condition surveys on each structure. Two Automated Motorized Total Stations were deployed to monitor structure monitoring points installed on all structures within 50 feet of the excavation.  Four vibration monitors were deployed to monitor vibration levels around the active excavation area.

Services Provided:

  • Performed Pre-Construction Condition Surveys for 160 neighboring buildings
  • Two Automated Motorized Total Stations were used along the construction stages to monitor the movement of the neighboring buildings
  • Four Seismographs were used along the construction stages to monitor the construction induced vibration
  • Prepared Exceedance Reports, Weekly, and Monthly Reports
